Target Objects
Targets are markers placed in a web page; these markers allow a link
to be made to a specific place within a web page. Targets
are especially useful in larger web pages, where a reader would otherwise
have to scroll about to find their specific item of interest.
For example, the relative URL index.html#change
tells a browser to position the "change" marker of index.html
(this page) at the top of the screen.
Click the above link and the browser will jump to a point later in this
page.
Targets are not displayed by a web browser, but in Composer, they displayed
as a little arrow & bulls-eye icon:
Target Properties
There is one property of a Target:
To see how target names are used, read about them in the Link
Object properties section.
Adding a Target to a page
Targets can be placed anywhere on a web page.
L-Click in the page at the spot where a reader would directly be able
to jump. Click the Target button
and enter a name for the target in the pop-up window.
Deleting a Target from a page
L-Click on a target icon
to select it, then use the DELETE key or otherwise
CUT it out.
Changing the name of a Target
L-DoubleClick on a target icon
and a window will pop up with the name of the target. Enter a new
name to replace the name shown.
If some web page references a target and the target's name is changed,
the link will no longer work; the page will be retrieved, but the screen
will be placed at the top of the page.
